As the Republic of Ireland has no standard font, our team at Dash Dynamics looked around to see if any standard font was suitable and decided none were good enough.
With that in mind, we used our current UK Motorcycle font as a starting point and, with that, we could have created something nice simply by stretching the height and squeezing the width. A few companies have followed this route, making their digits far from correct, while any horizontal stroke too wide and any vertical stroke too narrow. These do not meet the Irish statute.
Dash Dynamics then started the process of designing a completely new font that could meet the standards of both sizes (70 x 36mm) and the required number plate letter stroke width (10mm). This is a very long-winded process.
For us, the height and width were easy to draw, but the stroke width of 10mm was difficult, taking us a couple of months to draw the digits to the accuracy of 0.01mm we work to. This approach makes our 4D number plate letters and digit style the most accurate available and with amazing results!
Having designed the font, we then moved on to creating our Irish number plate Jigs for both the standard 520 x 110 size, and the 340 x 220 Square plate. These two standard plate size Jigs were designed specifically for the Republic of Ireland.
Our number plate Jig systems are designed to work with an IRL Euro end, for both printed and Surface mounted Acrylic at a width of 40mm. Should you be working with an alternative size Euro end, we can provide an easy method to ensure the digits are placed centrally within the available area.

After spending months working to get the perfect Irish 4D number plate letters and digits, we protect them worldwide again copying without our permission. Dash Dynamics have now a licence that allows users to manufacture them but not to redistribute the design files.
Like all other Dash Dynamics products, our Irish 4D number plate letters and digits are manufactured using the same materials used in the production of our UK BS AU145e products, the 3mm thick Genuine Perspex®. These are to ensure our products are most likely to comply with Irish regulations should these be changed to adopt similar rules to the UK number plate regulations.
Here at Dash Dynamics, we are happy to send out samples of our digits FOC should you wish to see their quality before purchase. This will ensure our clients will be happy after purchasing a larger quantity of items.
We offer starter packs consisting of only the 4D number plate letters and digits used within the Republic of Ireland. The spread of digits used is loosely based on the frequency of each digit appearing by county together with the 520 x 110mm number plate Jig. Should you require the rest of the alphabet, Dash does manufacture these and we can deliver on request.
Should you wish to take on the 340 x 220 number plate jig too, this can be ordered at the same time or later. Please note that we do not advise using the Irish 4D number plate letters and digits in the manufacture of the UK number plates.
